BackgroundThe low oil prices and difficulties in the mining industry hit the job market tremendously. Consequently, recent geoscience graduates have very little opportunities to enter the international petroleum industry, which include those in Indonesia. Active and talented geoscience students are looking for an opportunity to make the most of their knowledge that they have cultivated and refined during university. Unfortunately, suitable positions in companies are not readily available, despite graduates already possessing skill and enthusiasm established through achievement awards granted by AAPG (American Association of Petroleum Geologists).
This social enterprise was initiated to accommodate recent graduates' desires to continue their passion in geoscience. Several projects were formed to give them the opportunity to hone their skills and knowledge, and to effectively thrive in such values by the training and mentorship offered in this enterprise. These projects will help them to prepare for the industry when oil prices improve and investment interest returns to the national economy. Hopefully, the experience they will gain while pursuing these projects will augment their skill, expertise, connections and confidence, which are hugely valued within the global market. The products they create may help Indonesia in attracting potential investors from the petroleum and tourism industry, as well as other sectors. |
Who We Are
|
There are hundreds of fresh graduates in geoscience from SE Asian countries in this project. They are under supervision of experience geoscientists in different projects. We live in many different places but united in spirit, and apply new way of virtual working using modern technologies.
The initial idea came from the discussions with AAPG students during IPA conference in May 2016 in Jakarta. Many of them entered a new world after graduation. As young professionals they are looking for a way to pursue their career in geoscience whilst job opening in companies are very limited. After left Shell with 20 years of service, Herman Darman, set up Indogeo Social Enterprise in mid 2016. Within a month, there were about 100 new graduates joined the project. A supervision team was then set. The team consist of geoscientists with a couple years of industrial experience. Several more experience people are also joining to serve in the advisory team.

Ways of Working |
We communicate and collaborate online. We are a virtual team and we use technology available in they system which are free or low-cost (e.g. Google, Whatsapp, Skype, Weebly, Facebook, etc.). We also use many freeware such as QGIS for digitizing maps. The enterprise has no physical office. If necessary we will meet up in restaurants or preferably on-line.
